SUNY Stony Brook is good, fun club team. Admittedly, we're not amazing, but we do love helping each other out and we go to a lot of tournaments throughout the year and we always try to take as many people as possible to those. And the strong fencers we do have are really strong, so you'd be learning from really good people. You could also look at Swarthmore, they're not bad, but they have a really close knit team.

If you want to help a struggling fencing program with your prowess, go to college in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, and actually get some decent competition in, come to a Claremont school (Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Scripps, Harvey Mudd, or Pitzer)! We're a Southern Californian consortium--the only one of its type in the entirety of the US, where the members of the consortium are literally neighbors. We compete with UCs, ASU, USC, and maybe more that I can't remember...APPLY! :D

If you're looking for fencing schools in the south, University of Florida is a good choice (not saying that because I go there or anything...), but it is a club and not NCAA. At Nationals (USACFCs), we have been National Club Team Fencing Champions for four consecutive years and have really strong women teams. Clemson University is another good choice, though they are a lot smaller.

College for fencing? Just go look who won this year's NCAA title. Then you'll know where to go.

There’s also the idea of “Do I really want to sit on the bench of a Div I school, or actually fence at a Div III?” But to each his own.

If we're talking about schools, I've fenced at Tufts University for four years and I really like it. Our men's team is club and very good, and our women's team is varsity and has been getting a lot better over the time I've been here. I also have friends at SUNY Stony Brook, Smith and UMinn - they're not super high ranked teams, but they have really great people. If you're looking for a school's fencing team, I'd def try to learn about the culture of the team and not just the win/loss records.

I go to East Carolina in NC. Last year we went to Nationals (USACFCs) and my women's epee team placed third. It's also not varsity but it's growing as a club and we're becoming more competitive. Basically if you live in the area and are interested in competing collegiately, this is the place. I'm graduating this year and I'm really sad to be leaving. Love your blog, btw :)
